"No man acts with true wisdom till he fears God and hopes in his mercy" -William A. Plumer

"Whenever the King consulted them in any matter requiring wisdom and balanced judgment, he found them 10 times more capable than any of the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom." (Daniel 1:20)

Nebuchadnezzar put Daniel and his friends on the team of his inner advisors. The advisory team included many magicians and enchanters. Nebuchadnezzar's team of magicians and enchanters included fortune-tellers who claimed to be able to tell the future through supernatural practices.

The team of fortune-tellers had distinguished themselves to Nebuchadnezzar as masters at communicating their message so that it sounded authoritative as though it came directly from their gods.

Daniel and his three friends on the other hand had wisdom and understanding granted to them by God. The Bible describes Daniel as a man who had a spirit of excellence, gifts, wisdom, interpretation of dreams, and visions. And above, all Daniel and his friend were faithful to God but also to Nebuchadnezzar. Their diversion with the King came only when there was a conflict with their God.

Because of what Daniel and his friends demonstrated, King Nebuchadnezzar was far more pleased with them than with his fortune-tellers. The Bible talks about the fact that Nebuchadnezzar found Daniel and his three friends ten times more capable than his magicians!

The story of Daniel and his friends brings out an impeccable lesson to us all. As we walk our earthly journey, we must not merely pretend to have God's wisdom. Our wisdom will be genuine when we are rightly related to God.

Prayer Today: Heavenly Father, I know that you can open doors that no man can ever shut. It's not always easy for me to see and sense the direction I need to take. And so today, I trust and ask you to lead me to open doors of opportunity that you have prepared for me. Lord help me make sense of the alternatives that lay before me and help me see and make the right choices today. Keep me on track by illuminating my every step. Shine your Spirit over my thoughts as you help me navigate my life and decisions in the right direction. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
